Environment
Blue Box Sailing aim to provide unique water sports experiences. The provision of these trips means that our staff and clients are closely involved with nature and we are concerned by the effects of the global lifestyle on our environment. We want to preserve the sea, aquatic life and clean environment to allow future generations to enjoy recreational boating.
We recognise that our operations have an effect on the local, regional and global environment. As a consequence of this Blue Box Sailing are committed to continuous improvements in environmental performance and the prevention of pollution.
Environmental regulations, laws and codes of practice will be regarded as setting the minimum standards of our performance.
Waste: Our first aim is to avoid the production of waste. Where this is not feasible, whenever possible we aim to recycle or reuse materials. Hazardous waste will be disposed of through recognised, safe and responsible methods.
Stationery: When appropriate written communication will be replaced by e-mail. Letters, forms, promotional leaflets and other printed material, will where possible be printed on paper made from 100% post consumer waste or from sustainable sources.
Energy: To reduce energy consumption we have a turn it off policy for when items are not in use. Energy consumption aboard the vessels will be minimised, where possible through the usage of low energy bulbs and appliances.
Emissions: All petrol engines purchased shall as a minimum meet with the emissions standards as laid out by the Recreational Craft Directive (EPA 2006). Where possible engines shall exceed these standards. Engines not meeting with these standards purchased prior to 2006 shall be phased out by 2010. The current engine fitted to RIB Bluesprint is a 200HP Suzuki four stroke that meets with the highest emissions standards including EPA 2006. Diesel engines are to be maintained to the highest standard to ensure efficient running.
Pollution: All products used aboard the vessels that may seep into the water supply, will where available, be non-toxic and not harm aquatic life. Suitable precautions will be taken to minimise the risk of a leak of toxic liquids such as diesel and oil into the water.
Improvement: Blue Box Sailing will continually review working methods and standards to help minimize the effects of its activities on the environment. |
